Hello and welcome!
I am honored that you are taking time to read about me, and want to acknowledge you for taking this initial step on your healing journey.
My name is Jeni, and I am a licensed professional counselor in Colorado, with a private practice in Durango. I received a Masters in Counseling from Regis University in Denver after completing my internship at Fort Lewis College Counseling Center in Durango. Because I loved the college clients and culture, I continued working at "the Fort" after graduating as an extern in the Counseling Center, while simultaneously working as part of the Riversage Family Counseling group in Durango. In November of 2020, I decided to branch out into private practice in order to expand upon my areas of passion and deepen my work.
Presently I work with individuals ages 18 to seniors. My strengths are in helping the individual find the clarity they need to make healthy decisions for themselves, change behavior patterns and find a stronger sense of Self.
As an east coast transplant, I spent my younger years in New England and New Jersey and attended the University of Vermont for my undergraduate work, where I studied anthropology and art. I spent many summers in the mountains of Montana and Colorado, landing permanently in the west in 1995. After living life, getting married and having a family, my intrigue with people and how we connect led me to embark on a graduate journey in Counseling.
I have worked in a variety of fields, from outdoor adventure, travel, publishing, to art and design, and while my path to becoming a counselor has been circuitous, I believe every piece has led me to where I am now. I believe it is the variety of my past experiences – both the positive and the challenging ones – that have shaped my philosophy and led me to where I am now.
"We must be willing to willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned,
so as to have the life that’s waiting for us.”
